Trust and transparency
How we test AI tools
Every rating on Techavy is the work of a named human editor who used the tool, scored it against a fixed rubric, and wrote a verdict they will stand behind. Here is exactly how that works.
The six axis rating
We score every tool on a 6 axis system from 0 to 10. A 0 means the tool fails at the task. A 10 is reserved for category defining work. Most good tools land in the 6 to 8 range, and we are comfortable publishing low scores when they are earned.
- Overall
- A weighted summary of the five axes below, adjusted by the editor for how the tool performs at the job most people buy it to do. It is a judgment, not a raw average.
- Ease of Use
- How quickly a new user reaches a useful result. We score onboarding, defaults, the clarity of the interface, and how often the tool gets in its own way.
- Features
- Depth and breadth against the category. We reward capabilities that solve real problems and discount feature lists that exist mainly for the marketing page.
- Value for Money
- What you get for what you pay across the realistic price tier most buyers land on, including free tier limits, usage caps, and the cost of scaling up.
- Performance
- Speed, reliability, and output quality under real workloads. We test with our own prompts and files, not the vendor demo, and note where it breaks down.
- Support
- How well you are looked after when something goes wrong. Documentation quality, response times, status transparency, and whether help is gated behind the top plan.
The human signoff gate
Nothing auto publishes
Our pipeline can discover a tool, draft a fact sheet, and propose copy, but it cannot make anything public on its own. A rating is blocked from going live unless it carries a human written verdict and a named editor of record. An article is blocked unless a human reviewer has signed off on it. If a draft is missing a verdict, a reviewer, sufficient length, or its SEO metadata, the gate refuses it.
Independence
Ratings are never for sale. No advertiser, affiliate partner, or sponsor can buy a higher score, a better ranking, or a softer verdict. Commercial relationships and editorial scoring are kept strictly separate. Featured placements exist and are paid, but they are always labeled and they never change a rating or the order of a ranked list.
How we use AI
Techavy is an AI media house, and we use AI in our own workflow. AI helps us scan releases, draft first passes, and structure research. It does not get the final word. A named human editor tests the claims, corrects the output, and signs off before anything ships. When a piece was AI assisted in its first draft, we say so on the page rather than hide it.
Affiliate disclosure
How affiliate links work here
Techavy is reader supported. Some links to tools are affiliate links, which means we may earn a commission if you sign up or buy through them, at no extra cost to you. We route these links through our own redirect so they carry the correct rel attributes and never pass ranking signal. Crucially, whether a tool has an affiliate program has no bearing on whether we cover it, how we score it, or where it places in a list. We recommend tools we would tell a friend to use, and we keep recommending the better tool even when it pays us nothing.
Questions
Frequently asked
- Does Techavy accept payment to change a rating?
- No. Ratings are never for sale. Advertising and affiliate relationships have no influence on a score or a ranking, and any commercial placement is labeled.
- Is anything published automatically?
- No. Nothing auto publishes. Every rating and every article passes through a named human editor who can reject it before it goes live.
- Do you use AI to write reviews?
- We use AI to assist with first drafts and research. A named human editor then fact checks, tests, edits, and signs off. When a piece was AI assisted we disclose it on the page.
- How often are ratings updated?
- We record a last tested date and a methodology version on every rating, and we retest when a tool ships a major change or its pricing shifts.
